Digital Image Submission Guidelines

Images must be submitted during the submission window according to the following specifications.

Summary

Image size: up to 1024 pixels wide by 768 pixels high

Color profile: sRGB IEC61966-2.1 – make sure to check "Embed Color Profile" in the file Save As dialogue box

File name: FirstnameLastname-DescriptiveTitle.jpg (i.e., "RitaSummers-RedFoxPortrait.jpg")

File format: JPEG with embedded color profile

File size: up to 350 KB

Email one image at a time to with the category (Wildlife, Wildlife-HoM, Scenic, Open) in the subject line. (Masters, include "Masters" in the subject line, such as "Masters Wildlife.")

When: Images must be submitted during the submission window.

Processing Recipe

You may follow these steps to process your image in Photoshop.

  • If you are using layers, flatten your image: Layer > Flatten
  • If you are using 16-bit files, convert to 8-bit: Image > Mode > 8 Bits/Channel
  • Size your image to fit within 1024 pixels wide by 768 pixels high using one of the following methods:
    • Method 1: File > Automate > Fit Image…

      Note that older versions of Photoshop do not have this command.

      • enter 1024 in Width and 768 in Height
      • click OK
    • Method 2: Image > Image Size…

      • make sure "Scale Styles" is checked (selected)
      • make sure "Constrain Proportions" is checked (selected)
      • make sure "Resample Image" is checked (selected) and is set to "Bicubic Sharper (best for reduction)"
      • for a landscape image, set the Pixel Dimensions Width to 1024. If the Pixel Dimensions Height ends up greater than 768, set the Pixel Dimensions Height to 768 and let the Pixel Dimensions Width fall out.
      • for a portrait or square image, set the Pixel Dimensions Height to 768
      • you may ignore the Document Size information
      • click OK
  • Optionally, sharpen your image to taste using your favorite technique
  • Convert to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 colorspace: Edit > Convert to Profile…

    • select "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" in the Destination Space Profile pop-up menu
    • set the Conversion Options Engine to "Adobe (ACE)"
    • set the Conversion Options Intent to "Relative Colorimetric"
    • make sure "Use Black Point Compensation" is checked (selected)
    • make sure "Use Dither" is checked (selected)
    • click OK
  • Save your file to JPEG: File > Save As…

    • set the "Format" to "JPEG"
    • check off (select, or make active) "Color: Embed Color Profile: sRGB IEC61966-2.1"
    • set the filename to something like FirstnameLastname-DescriptiveTitle.jpg (i.e., RitaSummers-RedFoxPortrait.jpg)
    • click Save

    • adjust the Image Options Quality so that the file size is less than 350K
    • click OK
  • Email one file at a time to
    • Club: enter the category (Wildlife, Wildlife-HoM, Scenic, Open) in the subject line
    • Masters: enter "Masters" and the category (Wildlife, Wildlife-HoM, Scenic, Open) in the subject line (i.e. "Masters Wildlife")
