Hello all!

What are your computer (desktop and laptop) recommendations and why?

I am seeking a new computer more appropriate for photo editing. I’d prefer to keep it under $2000 or even $1500, but all feedback is appreciated! I was thinking that we could even have an article with this in our resources page, highlighting the RAM, storage, graphics, etc. for folks to evaluate pros and cons based on their priorities.

Thanks in advance!
Courtney

Hi Courtney,

I will be the first to tell you that I know literally nothing about computers and their specifications, but I will share with you what I bought a couple of years ago. I follow Matt K and am an Apple fan, so I don't know that this will help or not, but when I saw his post regarding the acquisition of a new laptop, I followed suit when the time came for me to upgrade. I was tired of not having enough memory and space for my apps to function efficiently. I don't remember the cost, but I do know it was a bit more than I expected, however I haven't looked back. This computer should serve me well for years to come. I will attach the screenshot below.

I know that there are many people in the club who understand computers down to the tiniest chip and often build their own, but that is something I can't even fathom. What I do know is that you probably need more RAM than you think, and even though we aren't "gamers", buying a computer suitable to satisfy gaming is more along the lines of what you need to process photos these days with all of the sophisticated apps we enjoy. I hope this helps.

Thank you Julie! I ended up investing in a Mac Studio despite my slight resistance to have to adapt to a new server. I appreciate your feedback and a few other members that reached out to me directly for recommended specifications. Mac was at the forefront of least problematic, and I have certainly dealt with plenty of PC issues to finally give me the push I needed to be all in with Apple (I admit I am a devotee with my phone and Watch).

I'm so happy your issue is now resolved Courtney. I don't think your Mac will disappoint.
Cheers!
