Thank you for being such a great audience for my presentation at the club meeting (in-person and Zoom). Here is the link to my Blog Post that allows you to download the presentation:

Hi Rich,

Great talk. Some additions/corrections:

H.264 vs H.265:

H.264 is for 8-bits/channel and standard dynamic range (SDR). That is for HD (1080x1920 pixels) and lower. Color space is close to sRGB (forget the exact spec--I'm current;y in a remote cabin outside of Durango). SDR is on the order of 1000:1

H.265 is for more than 8 bits/channel (e.g. 10 or 12) and high dynamic range, e.g. 4K HDR. It also uses Rec.2020 color space (larger than Adobe RGB). HDR dynamic range is up to around 20,000,000:1. HDR video is jaw dropping stunning on a 4K OLED TV. Only OLED can deliver that dynamic range.

I was only on for part of the meeting last night (slow internet). I didn't see discussion of the new 4K HDR. I gave a talk on 4K HDR in 2019 (I think). I've put the info from the talk and more here for those interested:

and

Regarding the red record button, on the R5 I've been using that for 4K HDR video, and I have a specific setup that has given essentially perfect HDR exposure every time I've done video. I'll have to go through the settings to list all the specifics, but essentially it is 4K UHD HDR PQ 60 FPS. The PQ is Perceptual Quantization and produces a log based tone curve that needs no editing out of camera. I have the video set to aperture priority and it is a two button press to switch from still to video, so take about a second. PQ is an interesting standard because it specifies viewing intensity, so a smart TV will display the video correctly. Thus, there is no ability to move the histogram! But I have found no need to as the R5 has gotten it perfect every time. Thus, to switch from stills to video is about a second then press the record button, and no need to change parameters as the PQ standard changes the parameters as required for video, e.g. 1/120 second exposure for 60 fps.

I need to update my articles with the new R5 4K HDR experience.

Thank you again Rich for your presentation and for posting your blog site for the pdf file. Very helpful!

Thank you Rich for your presentation and particularly for making it available to download. That makes it so much easier to go back and reference after I have had some time to try it and process the information in my mind. I know you could make it into a workshop and charge people for it but you were willing to share your knowledge with our club. That is part of what makes MHWPC so great.
