Description It was a windy day in the Slot Canyons which proved to be beneficial as the sand that was blowing in from the top created the shaft of light. The wind also proved to be detrimental as five minutes after making the photo, everyone was chased out of the canyon due to the windy conditions.

Description A storm washed this riverbed clean and brought in fresh Navajo sand overnight. As the storm clears the water quickly sinks into this dry, thirsty land. A gentle breeze at dawn gave flight to fresh cottonwood seeds and they landed softly on their prepared resting place.

Description This is a closeup image of a Whipple's fishhook cactus (Sclerocactus whipplei var. roseus). The cactus is also known as Whipple's cholla or simply fishhook cactus. It reminded me of candy with crystals of sugar inside. I used extension tubes to allow for even closer focus with a 100mm macro lens.
