Bull Moose Under Grand Teton

Description We were just about ready to pack it in when I heard a snorting sound and breaking branches. The sound kept getting closer and all of a sudden the bull came out from the clearing and passed under the Grand in just the right spot. The whole event lasted 14 seconds.

Description The ecosystem of Redwoods National Park preserves a number of threatened animal species such as the Brown Pelican, Tidewater Govby, Balk Eagle, Chinook Salmon, Northern Spotted Owl, and Steller’s Sea Lion. In recognition of the rare ecosystem and cultural history found in the parks, the United Nations designated them a World Heritage Site on September 5, 1980 and an International Biosphere Reserve on June 30, 1983.

Description This is one of many images that I made from near my campsite at Wonder Lake. What a great view to wake up to or to end the day! I really like all the different layers and colors in this image, ending in the distance with the beautiful mountain range and the lovely clouds. It definitely gives a sense of place where the wildlife live.

Description We had to get up at 4am, drive to the gate at Baxter State Park from Millinocket, Maine and get in line for the 5am opening. It took about 30 minutes to get processed through the gate, then an 8 mile drive on a dirt road to a campground near the pond, followed by a 20 minute hike with all of my gear to a viewpoint on Sandy Stream pond. Fortunately, we had good weather, beautiful fall foliage, and lots of moose and of course, lots of photographers. It was a good day. A bull moose and calf pair look to enjoy breakfast together in the fall foliage of Sandy Stream Pond.
